Train collision: 30 Dead and over 100 Wounded in Alexandria City, Egypt
Over two dozen of personshas lost their lives after two trains collided in the city of Alexandria Egyp.Some 30 people are dead and more than 100 injured.One of the trains was traveling from Port Said and the other from Cairo, Ahram Online said, before they crashed. Egypt’s railway authority said an express train had crashed into the rear of the second train near the Khurshid station on the Cairo-to-Alexandria line.
There was no immediate information on what had caused the collision.The head of the ambulance services in Alexandria’s western sector, Dr Mohamed Abu Homs, said he feared the death toll and the number of injured could rise further. Egypt’s railway system has a poor safety record, mostly blamed on decades of badly maintained equipment and poor management. State TV broadcast images of mangled train coaches on the tracks as crowds gathered around trying to help the victims.
